Hi,
Just over a week before we head back to Jo'burg, check out the bakkie to make sure the rats haven't done too much damage, get some new tyres and a couple of other things sorted, then head south to Mountain Zebra NP.
A detour from our original plans to head north into Mozambique but we have been corresponding with 2 Norwegian friends who have been visiting Sth Africa the last 3 years. We first met Reidar & Ellen at Luxor in Egypt. We were camped at the overlanders base in the city feeling a bit anxious about the venture we were embarking on on our own when this Landcruiser pulled in laden with all the mods & cons. Everything one could need to travel Africa was on or in their vehicle. We were relieved they intended taking the same ferry on Lake Nasser as ourselves.
After that we travelled together for a couple of days but kept losing each other. It was quite amusing really though the only time we really needed their help when we became stuck in Sudan, they weren't with us.
So, we will spend a few days together at the Mntn Zebra NP before heading slowly north takng in the Addo Elephant NP and also the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi (don't ask me to pronounce it) NP in South Africa on the way.
Been looking at the Mozambique map the last few days. Not many national parks in the country but a long coastline with many beaches, good diving and plenty of history. Have heard the country is the favourite of many overlanders. We are looking forward to it.
We hope to get as far as Zanzibar then head back south by a different route maybe through Malawi and Zambia.
